Plans for drug rehabilitation centre in Hampton cancelled
It had recently been reported in the local newspapers that Rooftop
Housing Group were proposing to locate a drug rehabilition centre in School Road in Hampton. The rehabilitation centre was
to house 4 adults recovering from drug and alcohol addictions. A large number of local residents had expressed concerns about
the plan as they felt that Hampton is not the right location for such a centre. Mr Bob Newbold from the post office had organised
a petition which was presented to the council by Councillor John Smith. The residents association had also taken up the
case and tried to obtain a meeting with all partners associated with the proposed rehabilitation centre. Letters were
also written to all parties involved requesting more information and statistics on the success of other rehabilitation centres
in the area. However, before a meeting could be organised we received an official letter from Rooftop housing stating
that: "In the face of sustained opposition from the local community, all of the partners involved in
the project have decided not to continue with the proposal to use 44 school road as accommodation for local people under going
drug rehabilitation".
Martin Avenue Development to start
in September
Rooftop Housing Group has received 4.2 million pounds in government
funding to replace 60 houses on Martin Avenue and Bredon Crescent with 160 brand new houses. The planning application was
approved by Wychavon Council in May of this year. The council placed numerous conditions on the approval and these
will need to be met by the developer. The developer is Bellway Homes and they plan to complete the development over the next
two to three years in different phases. When the development starts information will be put up for local residents
on how to contact them with any queries.
