Sneak preview of the plans for Hampton
We have had a sneak
preview of the first draft of the development plan for Hampton and are pleased to say that our wish list
has been incorporated. The developer has taken our suggestions on board and the first draft has allocated space for:
1. Mini Worcester Woods 2. Village green 3. Playground 4. Playing fields 5. Allotments
This
is great news and shows that when a community unites we can achieve something. A word of caution is that it was just a first
draft of the plan and plans can still change. More information will be available in the HRA newsletter that will be published
this month.

Proposal for 800 new homes in Hampton
Did you know... ... that Wychavon Council are proposing to build 800 new homes in Hampton? ... that
will almost double the size of Hampton? ... that the plans were issued for public consultation in September 2008? ... that this is our opportunity to influence the plans and make our views known?
As the Hampton Residents Association
we will act as a voice for Hampton and represent the views of the Hampton community.
These proposed developments
are driven by the South Worcestershire Joint Core Strategy (SWJCS). The first link below takes you to an extract from the
options paper relating to developments in Evesham. The second link will take you to their website where you will find all
of their publications. Some of it makes interesting reading and includes maps of potential development sites.
On the 3rd of February 2009 there was a presentation from the SWJCS on the feedback
received from the consultation process in September 2008. This presentation ackowledged the work that the Hamtpon Residents
Association had submitted (see link below for the document). The SWJCS is now considering plans to reduce the number of houses
in Hampton from 800 to 400. They have identified an alternative site of Cheltenham road for additional housing. This site
has not gone through the consultation process yet and until this has happened the formal plan will not be changed. A final
version of the development plan is expected to be published at the end of this year.

In the meantime the Hampton Residents Association has been contacted by the developer of the
Hampton site and we have been invited to take part in the design process. This is an excellent opportunity for us
as residents to influence the development plan for Hampton. To help your residents association determine what you felt was
important in your community we organised an open day on Saturday the 7th of March at
the Evesham Operatic and Amateur Dramatic Club. There was an excellent turn out and we are very pleased with
your views and opinions. The responses have all been collated by the HRA and will be presented to the developer at the
next meeting. The question we posed to Hampton residents
on the open day was about what facilities they would like to be provided in Hampton as part of any new development. We asked
residents to rank them in order of importance and the following was the outcome: - Mini Worcester Woods
- Village Green
- Playground
- Playing Fields
- Allotments
We have taken these ideas to the developer and in the first draft of the plan space has been allocated for
all five of our requests. For more information see the HRA newsletter which will be published this month.

The South Worcestershire Joint Core Strategy
The picture at the bottom is the map produced by the SWJCS of the sites they have
reviewed for proposed development. This map has been overlayed on a google earth picture of Hampton and Evesham so that you
can see exactly which areas are currently considered for development. The darker blue areas are considered but the pink ones
have been ruled out for various reasons. The light blue areas indicate flood zones. This map and the evidence base for these
proposals can be found in the SWJCS documentation that you can find with the link above.
The inaugural meeting of the Hampton Resident's association took place on Thursday
the 21st of August. The minutes of the meeting are available in the link below. The main topic was the proposed development.
Please find the presentation that was shown also below. A vote was held and the majority of residents attended agreed
that some development was probably needed but that 800 homes in Hampton would cause a huge strain on the community and the
infrastructure. The agreed next steps are to set up a committee to run the residents association. At the meeting some people
volunteered and the first committee meeting is scheduled for the week commencing the 1st of September. If you would like to
volunteer to be part of the committee please contact us. The residents association will concentrate on the first priority
initially, which will be to influence the development plans.

The public consultation starts on the 19th of September 2008 for 6 weeks. A public
event is scheduled on Wednesday the 24th of September 2008 at the Evesham Town Hall from 10:30 a.m. till 8:00 p.m.
If you feel strongly about these developments then please make sure you get a chance to attend and voice your opinion.
